Bulgaria has entered into talks to join a project of Greek state-owned company
DEPA for the construction of a floating terminal for liquefied natural gas (LNG)
near Kavala in northern Greece, Bulgarian media reported on
Friday.
Romania has also shown interest in taking part in the floating
LNG terminal project, public radio broadcaster BNR reported, quoting DEPA
officials.
Bulgaria will have constant access to the LNG distribution
network and may transport gas to neighboring Romania and Serbia.
The
project includes the construction of a network of interconnectors which would
receive gas mainly from the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), designed to transport
gas from the Shah Deniz II field in Azerbaijan. It will also receive gas from an
existing Greek terminal for liquefied gas, as well as from another floating
terminal in Greece.
The project is in the process of negotiations which
are expected to be finalized by the end of the year.
