Bulgaria will increase its power export capacity to Turkey to 366 megawatts (MW)
as of July from 266 MW at present, a senior official of the country’s
Electricity System Operator (ESO) said on Thursday.
The capacity increase
was due to become a fact in June but was pushed back a month, ESO board member
Mitiu Christozov told a nuclear energy forum organised by local non-governmental
organisation Bulatom in the Black Sea resort of Riviera.
In April,
Bulgaria's electricity exports slumped to 124 megawatt hours (MWh) from 565 MWh
in December 2012.
The decline was due to worsening economic conditions in
Southeastern Europe, Christozov explained, adding that Turkey was the only
country in the region where demand remained high.
Christozov also said
ESO plans to build two 400 kV transmission lines - one between Burgas and
Verbena in Turkey, and another one between Galabovo and Nea Santa in Greece. No
details were immediately available.
