Turkish renewables developer Fortis Energy said it has begun construction of a 62 MW photovoltaic (PV) plant integrated with a battery energy storage system (BESS) at a site near Albania’s southeastern town of Erseke.

The project, with a planned peak capacity of 75 MW, is set to generate 135 GWh of electricity annually, Fortis said in a Linkedin post last week.

The battery storage system will store up to 25 MWh of excess energy.

The Albanian government granted Fortis a construction permit for the park in June.

In Albania, Fortis is in the early stages of developing several solar plants - a 100 MW project near Diber; 100 MW and 25 MW projects near Shkoder; 55 MW, 20 MW and 45 MW projects near Fier; and a 20 MW project near Vlore, according to its website.

Fortis Energy operates in Turkey, the Netherlands, and in Southeast Europe, focusing on solar, wind, biogas, geothermal, and green hydrogen investments.
