Austrian energy group Verbund said it has brought on stream half of the turbines
of a 225 megawatt (MW) wind farm located in Casimcea, southeastern
Romania.
The investment value of the project stands at around 380 million
euro ($503 million), Verbund said in a statement on Thursday.
Additional
capacity will be connected to the grid by the beginning of 2014, the Austrian
company added.
A total of 88 wind turbines will be producing around 540
gigawatt hours of clean electricity per year, enough to cover the needs of some
350,000 households.
Verbund plans to later expand the wind farm's
capacity to 280 MW by 2016.
The Austrian group operates wind power plants
with a total capacity of around 450 MW in Austria and abroad.
