The European Union expects both Russia and Ukraine to ensure that
natural gas supplies to the bloc aren't disrupted, as the two countries face a
spat about prices, a spokeswoman said Monday, refusing to call the situation a
"crisis."
"We do expect both parties, Russia and Ukraine to ensure that there are no
gas disruptions," Marlene Holzner, spokeswoman for Energy Commissioner
Guenther Oettinger, said during a regular press briefing.
"We are in continuous talks with both sides on a very broad [range] of
issues," she said.
The EU is particularly concerned about the relations between these two big
neighbors, as much of the gas it imports from
Russia
flows
through
Ukraine
