State-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) has initiated a procedure with Serbia's energy regulator to increase electricity prices by 7% as of October 1, EPS director general Dusan Zivkovic said on Thursday. The bulk of the income generated through the tariff increase will go towards the development of the electricity transmission and distribution networks,

Zivkovic said in a televised interview with public broadcaster RTS.

Following an 8% hike in November 2023, the average price of electricity in Serbia for customers entitled to guaranteed supply at regulated prices now stands at 10.26 dinars ($0.09/ 0.08 euro) per kWh.

In its country report for Serbia published in July, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said that the government in Belgrade had committed to raise the electricity tariff and that it was also considering lowering the monthly electricity use limit for the highest tariff rate, which now stands above 1,600 kWh, to support cost recovery. The IMF also said that the next tariff adjustment is planned to take place no later than January 2027, following a review of the financial position of state-owned energy enterprises.

In the first half of 2025, EPS posted a net profit of 27.4 billion dinars, down 15% year-on-year. Revenue from the sale of electricity came in at 219.6 billion dinars, down 1% compared to the first six months of 2024.
