Kazakhstan’s President Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev instructed the government to ensure access for Kazakh companies to oil and gas tenders. There are only tax benefits for foreign suppliers, Tokayev told a meeting with Kazakh citizens in the Atyrau region, located in the west of Kazakhstan.

“Our entrepreneurs do not even try to participate in tenders because they know they will not make a profit and imports will be cheaper anyway. The Government should resolve this issue as soon as possible and change the situation,” Tokayev said.

“Within the framework of the Kashagan project, we agree to equal participation of domestic companies in procurement only in the amount of more than 20 million tenge (more than $52,000). Under the TCO project, this work has not been done at all. I instruct the government to carry out relevant work with international consortiums,” Tokayev said.
