Iranian lawmakers Monday reiterated a threat to block the key
Strait
 of Hormuz
, after the European Union agreed to a ban on
Iranian oil.

Iranian officials and lawmakers late December had warned the Islamic Republic
could respond to new sanctions, including the EU embargo and
U.S.
sanctions against the Central Bank of
Iran
, with
a closure of the Strait through which passes one-third of global seaborne
exports.

In an interview with
Fars
, Fatemeh Alia, a member of
the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said "when the
Americans took aggressive to the Iranian nation, we made our threat to close
the
Strait of Hormuz
.

"Iran
hasn't changed such stance," she said.
