Spanish electricity company Iberdrola SA (IBE.MC) said Tuesday its
electricity output rose 15.4% in the first quarter 2010 from a year earlier to
42,454 gigawatt hours.
Production increases came mostly from a surge in hydroelectric power following
heavy rains in
Spain
that
replenished hydroelectric reservoirs. Gas-fired and renewable power output also
rose.
At the end of the first quarter,
Spain
's
biggest power utility had an installed capacity of 43.7 gigawatts, flat from a
year earlier, as renewables capacity rose while capacity from fuel-oil based
plants plunged.
Iberdrola, based in
Bilbao
,
northern
Spain
, is
the world's biggest wind-power generator.
