Fire Erupts After 2 Trains Derail in North Dakota

Some 10 railcars were engulfed in flames after two BNSF Railway Co. trains derailed on Monday about 25 miles west of Fargo, N.D., a local official said. At least one of the trains was carrying oil, the railroad said. Fire and hazardous materials team are battling the fire, which is about a mile west of Casselton, N.D., said Sgt. Tara Morris of the Cass County Sherrif's office. She added that all people and animals within a 10-mile radius of the town should find shelter and avoid going outside until the area is deemed safe

Libya Makes New Gas Discovery

Libya, holder of Africa's fourth-largest proven gas reserves, has made a new gas find southwest of Tripoli amid efforts to boost the country's hydrocarbon output, state-run National Oil Corp. said Tuesday. A consortium of NOC, Algeria's Sonatrach, Oil India and Indian Oil discovered gas during the drilling of the B1-96-01 exploration well in the Ghadames basin, some 650 kilometers (404 miles)Southwest of Tripoli, the firm said in a statement posted on its website. The well flowed at a rate of 12 million cubic feet per day of gas through 64 and 32 inch chokes in the Tadrart formation

Brazil Petrobras Crude-Oil Production Slips 0.1% in November

Brazilian state-run energy giant Petroleo Brasileiro (PBR, PETR4.BR), or Petrobras, said late Monday that domestic crude-oil output dipped slightly in November, despite record production from massive new oil fields. Domestic crude-oil output slipped 0.1% to 1.957 million barrels a day, down from 1.959 million barrels a day in October, Petrobras said. Production in Brazil's pre-salt region, where billions of barrels were discovered trapped under a thick layer of salt, rose to a fresh record of 339,100 barrels a day in November, Petrobras said

Polish Utility PGE to Continue Nuclear Power Project Despite Delays

Polish state-controlled power utility PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA (PGE.WA) and a group of other state-held companies will continue to work on a nuclear power plant project despite regulatory delays, PGE said Tuesday. In September, Poland's second-largest electricity producer, Tauron Polska Energia (TPE.WA), its smaller rival Enea SA (ENA.WA), and copper miner KGHM Polska Miedz SA (KGH.WA) each said they would buy 10% of PGE's nuclear project. PGE will retain 70%.

South Sudan Rebel Chief Sending Delegation to Peace Talks
