Serbia's government adopted a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with French state-owned energy giant Electricite de France (EDF) on long-term cooperation in the field of energy transition and low-carbon technology, the energy ministry said on Friday

The memorandum creates conditions for a strategic partnership with EDF in assessing the potential for the development of the civil nuclear programme in Serbia, with support for the development of professional personnel and the exchange of technical knowledge, energy minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic said in a press release following a meeting with the French ambassador to Serbia, Pierre Cochard.

EDF has also expressed its interest in cooperation with state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije in the development of new, and the revitalisation of existing hydroelectric power plants (HPP), Djedovic Handanovic added.

She added that the MoU envisages the possibility of cooperation in the development of energy storage solutions, primarily batteries and green hydrogen, and solutions for the efficient use of produced energy.

Last month, Vucic said Serbia is interested in getting at least four small modular reactors (SMRs) in order to boost its energy capacities in the future.
