European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is personally covering the cost of having a German PR agency to advise her on social media, a Commission’s spokesperson confirmed on Friday. Von der Leyen hired the Berlin-based StoryMachine public relations agency to curate her virtual image, while still a candidate to become head of EU’s Executive arm.

The Swiss media outlet Aargauer Zeitung revealed that the contract with the firm continued after von der Leyen was picked as EC President.

“It’s a private contract. She pays for it herself,” said Eric Mamer, adding that every six weeks or every month, von der Leyen receives feedback on her social media activity.
