Endesa X, Endesa's new business line that offers new services and innovative technological solutions in the world of energy, signed an agreement with leading car park operators Saba and Saba Barcelona Bamsa to deploy up to 400 charging stations across their car park network in Spain, the companies announced Friday.

In accordance with the agreement, Endesa will be responsible for the charging of electric vehicles in the car park networks of Saba and Bamsa, a public-private capital company, 60 percent of which is owned by Saba and 40 percent by the Barcelona City Council. Saba and Bamsa will manage the development and investment of this charging network operated by Endesa.

As part of the agreement, 144 charging stations have initially been deployed in 36 car parks —18 in the Saba network and 18 in the Bamsa network—that are already operational in 14 cities across the country including Madrid, Barcelona, A Coruna, Alicante, Marbella and Pamplona among others, the companies said.

The charging stations use semi-fast technology, at 22 kilowatts, operating with the universal connector for this type of charging. The technology will allow users to charge 80 percent of their electric car battery in approximately one hour, and the stations will be open to any customer, both short-stay and subscribers, who park in the Saba and Bamsa car parks.

According to Endesa's statement, the infrastructures deployed are connected to its digital platform that will allow the interoperability and remote control of the charging points.

"Thanks to the ecaR cell phone application available on iOS and Android, users will be able to find charging stations, find out their status and even pay with their credit card without needing to be an Endesa customer," the press release read.

The agreement forms part of the Public Access Infrastructure Development Plan for Electric Cars that Endesa presented in mid-November 2018 which seeks to install 108,000 public and private charging stations in the next five years, of which more than 8,500 points will be public.

Saba called the project a continuation of the company's mission in recent years to incorporate different mobility models and new added-value services in its car parks, adding the rise of electric vehicles was reflected in a greater number of adapted parking spaces in anticipation of the demand.
