One of Turkey's largest conglomerates, Ronesans Holding, signed a framework cooperation agreement with the Netherlands-based Port of Rotterdam for the Ceyhan Mega Petrochemical Industrial Zone in Turkey, the company announced on Thursday

Ronesans Holding and the Port of Rotterdam, the largest port and industrial zone operator in Europe, signed the agreement on Monday, Sept. 17 in Rotterdam for projects in the Ceyhan Mega Petrochemical Industrial Zone that will primarily focus on petrochemical plants.

"Ronesans Holding is leading the development of the Ceyhan Mega Petrochemical Industrial Zone in the south of Turkey with its planned petrochemical investment in the industrial zone," the company said.

Ronesans Holding also plans to cooperate with the Port of Rotterdam to develop the entire zone with additional investments. The two parties will start working on the development of a petrochemical cluster in the area and try to attract global brands for investment in the zone within the scope of the deal. The companies will jointly work to transfer expertise and know-how of the Port of Rotterdam, Ronesans Holding said in a statement.

"The projects in the Ceyhan Mega Petrochemical Industrial Zone will primarily focus on petrochemical plants. The industrial facilities to be built in the zone will produce petrochemical products in Turkey, end the import of such products, reduce the foreign exchange gap and make a significant contribution to the national economy and employment," the statement read. Erman Ilicak, president of Ronesans Holding and Allard Castelein, president and CEO of the Port of Rotterdam attended the signing ceremony in Rotterdam.
