Turkeys Electricity Tariff Customers Fall in June

The number of electricity consumers who are able to exercise their right to buy electricity from their preferred provider decreased by 32.64 percent in June compared to the previous month, according to the latest Energy Exchange Istanbul (EXIST) data revealed on Monday

These eligible consumers, who availed of more competitive tariffs, totaled 1.49 million last month. Consumers who use more than 2,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year qualified as eligible consumers in 2017. In other words, customers with a monthly power bill of more than 68 Turkish liras ($14.73) were classified as eligible.

Izmir had the largest number of eligible consumers in June totaling 81,506. Konya and Istanbul followed with 65,146 and 64,402, respectively.

Of the 1.49 million eligible consumers last month, residential consumers were the largest group with over 1.12 million followed by the business sector with 345,499 eligible consumers.
