Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is set to inaugurate the Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) project on June 12 in the northwestern city of Eskisehir

As part of the inauguration ceremony to be held in Eskisehir, where the project's compressor station is located, Turkey will host a number of heads of state and government, as well as energy ministers and directors of energy companies, according to a press release from the presidential press office on Sunday.

The project, with an investment of around $7.99 billion, will deliver 6 billion cubic meters (bcm) of Azeri gas to Turkey and 10 bcm to Europe.

TANAP will transport natural gas from the giant Shah Deniz II field in Azerbaijan to Turkey and subsequently to Europe, the statement noted.

Earlier, Vagif Aliyev, board chairman of SOCAR Turkey, announced that the pipeline would deliver 2 bcm to Turkey in the first year and volumes would gradually rise to 6 bcm by 2020.

The remaining 10 billion cubic meters is planned for delivery to Europe via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which is expected to be ready to receive gas in 2020.

The 1,850-kilometer-long TANAP is the largest section of the 3,500-kilometer-long Southern Gas Corridor, which was officially inaugurated on May 29 during a ceremony held in Baku with the participation of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev.
