Bulgaria's long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs)
with power producers stand in the way of the country's plans for the
liberalisation of its energy market, Bulgaria’s economy minister said on
 Thursday.
Bulgaria's wish is to have a fully liberalised power market by 2015, in
line with the European Commission's recommendations, but this would be
hard to achieve in the presence of long-term PPAs with both power
producers from renewable sources and large combustion plants,Dragomir
Stoynev said during a meeting with European competition commissioner
Joaquin Almunia in Brussels, as quoted in a press release of the economy
 ministry.
Bulgaria will seek a solution to this situation together with the
European Commission, he said that he had agreed with Almunia on taking
concrete steps at expert level.
