For the 8th consecutive year the “Energy and Development” Conference will take place in Athens on November 26 and 27. The conference has been established over the past years as a major event for energy policy and as an industry forum. This year’s conference which is organised by the Institute of Energy for S.E. Europe (IENE) will take place in Atheneaum Intercontinental Hotel, Athens.
The Institute of Energy is a non-profitable organisation which covers all energy sources and related technology, with special emphasis on energy information. The organising and scientific committee comprises some of Greece’s top energy experts and representatives from all major energy industries.
The main conference sponsor is TERNA ENERGY SA which specialises on wind power generation and is involved in large scale conventional energy projects. Communication sponsors include the respected Athens daily KATHIMERINI, the Radio Station SKY, 100,3 FM and the electronic portals www.energia.gr and www.euro2day.gr.
Over the last 20 years, energy has emerged as one of the most dynamic sectors of the economy in several industrialised countries but also worldwide. Over this period, energy investments have increased manyfold, as a result of the improvement in the standard of living in many countries and the growing need for transportation and power generation. Investments in the energy sector are likely to increase even further following global concern for the environment (e.g. Kyoto protocol) and the impact of increased energy consumption.
Similarly, in Greece the energy sector has played a key role in the country’s development with huge investments in the hydrocarbons, power generation, natural gas, and renewable energy sources.
This year’s “Energy and Development” Conference will cover the following topics:
· International Developments and the Outlook for Greece and S.E.Europe.
· Opportunities and Obstacles in Creating Competition in the Greek Electricity Market
· The Strategic Role of Petroleum
· Opportunities in the further Development of Natural Gas in Greece and S.E. Mediterranea.
· Cogeneration and Renewable Energy Developments in Greece.
· Latest Technological Developments in the Energy and Environmental Sectors.
