Romanian energy output fell 6.4% on the year to 19.57 million tons of oil equivalent in the first 11 months of 2013, on the back of a 20.3% decline in the thermal sector, official data showed Friday, news agency Mediafax reports.

Thermal energy output decreased to 23.93 billion kilowatts hour in January to November, the statistics institute INS said.

Hydropower production rose 23% to 13.96 billion KWh in the first 11 months of 2013, while nuclear output was up 1.3% to 10.61 billion KWh.

Wind farm output increased a hefty 88% to 4.22 billion KWh, from 2.25 billion KWh in January-November 2012. Wind farm production covered 8% of the country's electricity output in the first 11 months of 2013.

 Romania 's primary energy resources fell 9.4% on the year to 28.22 million tons of oil equivalent in the January-November period, the data show.

Electric energy resources were down 4% to 53.15 billion KWh, largely due to a 2.5% decline in production.

Romanian final power consumption reached 45.35 billion KWh in January to November, down 6.4% from the same period of 2012. Public illumination fell 11.6% on the year, while household consumption was down 1.3%.

Electric energy exports rose 92.1% year-on-year to 1.96 billion KWh in the analyzed period.
