Libya, holder of Africa's fourth largest proven gas reserves, has made two new gas finds southwest of the capital Tripoli amid efforts to boost the country's hydrocarbon output, state-run National Oil Corp., or NOC, said Wednesday.

A consortium of NOC, Algeria's Sonatrach, Oil India and Indian Oil discovered gas during the drilling of the B1-95-02 exploration well in contract area 95/96 in the Ghadames basin, some 800 km Southwest of Tripoli, the firm said in a statement posted on its website.

The well flowed at a rate of 10 million cubic feet per day of gas through 64 and 32 inch chokes in the Mamouniyat formation.

Another consortium of the state-owned firm and Polish Oil & Gas also made its first discovery in the Murzeq Basin , 750 kilometers southwest of Tripoli .

The wildcat well flowed at a rate of 4 million cubic feet per day of gas through 64 and 32 inch chokes in the Carboniferous Tahara formation.

Libya holds 52.8 trillion cubic feet of proven natural gas reserves, according to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
