BP PLC (BP) said Sunday it is evacuating workers from all its platforms in the Gulf of Mexico and temporarily halting production there ahead of Tropical Storm Isaac's anticipated move into the Gulf.

"The move comes amid a western shift in several of the leading storm tracking models and a growing consensus that the tropical storm will strengthen into a category one or two hurricane before making landfall in the coming days," the company said in an update on its hotline.

BP, the gulf's largest oil producer, produces about 250,000 net barrels of oil there per day.

BP began evacuating workers from its easternmost platform on Friday, shutting down its Thunder Horse operation and removing nonessential workers from the Mississippi Canyon region of the central Gulf. Saturday, the company proceeded to evacuate all its staff from the Mississippi Canyon area, stopping production there.
