It is unlikely the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries will agree to increase output quotas at its meeting in June, Richard Jones, deputy executive director of the International Energy Agency, said Tuesday.

"It's unlikely that OPEC as a group will reach an agreement" to change the quotas, Jones said on the sidelines of a press conference. "I'd be skeptical," he said, adding however that he hopes some countries will raise production unofficially.

He also said that there are other oil-producing countries outside OPEC that might do something, such as Russia .

One other way to decrease pressure in the oil market would be to act on the demand side, but the release of emergency stocks is just one of the available tools to do that, Jones said.
