The deal, one of the largest long-term LNG contracts in Eastern Europe, will channel gas primarily to Ukraine and other Eastern European countries.
Atlantic-See LNG Trade also signed memoranda of understanding with Ukraine’s Naftogaz for up to 0.7 billion cubic meters annually and with Romania’s Nova Power & Gas and Transgaz for about 1.4 billion cubic meters, both for 20-year periods beginning in 2030.
Venture Global, which holds 25% capacity in Greece’s Alexandroupoli floating terminal, will secure guaranteed sales over two decades.
The commercial risk lies with Atlantic-See LNG Trade and its shareholders DEPA and Aktor, who are negotiating further long-term supply agreements.
“This agreement marks a historic shift from vision to action,” said DEPA CEO Konstantinos Xifaras.
“Greece gains for the first time a long-term, strategic LNG supply line from the US, strengthening its role as a pillar of energy security in Europe,” he stressed.
For his part, Aktor CEO Alexandros Exarchou called it “a national milestone creating historic opportunities.”
US Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle, present at the signing, hailed Greece as a model for Europe’s diversification from Russian gas. US and Greek officials also signed a joint declaration to deepen economic cooperation, focusing on energy and artificial intelligence.
