incentives system for renewables is inefficient and utility bills are in danger
of rising 20% by 2020 without the necessary reform, the country's energy
regulator said Thursday.
"Today our [renewables incentives] system is...very inefficient,"
said Alessandro Ortis in his annual report to parliament in
Rome
. "The
excessively high level of incentives generates distortions and opacity in the
sector."
Italians will pay more than EUR3 billion this year for their renewables energy
incentives, or about 10% of the country's yearly electricity bills, Ortis told
lawmakers.
