BP PLC (BP) said Thursday that production from its western operations in the Gulf of Mexico that had been shut in due to Hurricane Alex is back online. BP and other producers evacuated workers and shut down oil and gas output of some facilities ahead of Alex, which after making landfall in northeastern Mexico on Wednesday night was downgraded to a tropical storm. As of Wednesday, about 26.33% of oil production and about 14.36% of natural-gas production in the Gulf of Mexico had been shut down due to Alex, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement said.
