The dispute over gas payment debts between Russian gas monopoly OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) and Belarus has turned into a "gas war," Russian news agency RIA Novosti reports Tuesday, citing the Belarusian president.

"Unfortunately this conflict has turned into a gas war between Gazprom and Belarus ," Alexander Lukashenko is quoted at as saying at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
