GDF Suez: To Build 1,730 MW Power Plant In Saudi Arabia

French utility GDF Suez (GSZ.FR) Tuesday announced a 20-year power purchase agreement with Saudi Electricity Co (5110.SA), and said that it--along with its partners Aljomaih Holding Co of Saudi Arabia and Japan's Sojitz Corp. (2768.TO)--will start building the 1,730 megawatt gas-fired power plant for the project.

(2768.TO)--will start building the 1,730 megawatt gas-fired power plant for the project.

State-controlled Saudi Electricity Company will buy all of the plant's output over a 20 year period, GDF Suez said.

The total cost of the investment will be approximately $2.1 billion and early power is expected by May 1, 2012 . Full completion of the plant, situated approximately 125 kilometers west of Riaydh, is scheduled March 2013, the company said.
