Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Tuesday cited "progress" with Turkey on international sanctions that the United States and its allies want to slap on Iran over its suspect nuclear program.

"We're working every day and making progress,"
Clinton told AFP when asked if in her opinion Ankara would end up agreeing to the sanctions.

Turkey is currently one of the 10 non-permanent members of the U.N. Security Council which the U.S. -- which accuses Tehran of secretly working on a nuclear weapon -- wants to present a resolution condemning Iran .

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan as recently as late March rejected new sanctions in an interview with the German magazine Der Spiegel.

Clinton spoke at the beginning of a bilateral meeting with her Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu, on the sidelines of the Washington summit on nuclear security.
