Freezing weather and an all-time high demand for U.K natural gas has
forced natural gas grid operator National Grid PLC (NGG) to issue a Gas
Balancing Alert to the market by e-mail Thursday, the second such alert this
week.

Prices for
U.K.
natural gas across the curve have surged higher, with within-day gas last heard
traded at 54 pence a therm.

The move upwards has been exaggerated by freezing temperatures on continental
Europe
,
which means supply from
Norway
's
Langeled pipeline and through the Interconnector pipeline that links the U.K
with
Belgium
 has
been limited, traders said.
