Ukraine has asked the International Monetary Fund to release a $2 billion loan to help it pay for Russian natural gas, external obligations and budget spending. Meeting payments in the next three months will be "extremely difficult" without the IMF funding, Deputy Prime Minister Hryhoriy Nemyria said.

He warned of potential "social unrest" if wages and pensions are not
