SOCHI, Russia (AFP)--The hopes of ex-Soviet republics Georgia and Ukraine to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization remain "valid," German Chancellor Angela Merkel said here Friday.
"The agreements reached in Bucharest remain valid," Merkel said at a news conference with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, referring to the alliance's summit held in the Romanian capital in April
