A fire on the Turkish section of the Baku-Tblisi-Ceyhan crude pipeline had yet to be extinguished Friday, more than two days after an apparent blast shut down the oil route, a spokesman for Botas International Ltd. said.

"The fire is under control but is still ongoing," he said.

He said it was still unclear if the incident, which shut down 850,000 barrels of oil a day, had been caused by sabotage or a technical fault.

"After we stop the fire, we will clarify," he said, adding Botas' priority was to make sure the fire didn't expand.

The Azerbaijani and Georgian parts of the project are operated by BP PLC (BP), which owns 30.1% of the venture. The Turkish side of the route is managed by Botas.
